Steven Young Trust Fund
In September of 1989, a group of Caledonia citizens raised funds for experimental medication for Steven Young, a 14 year old Caledonia boy suffering from cancer. A weekend event including a dance was organized. Unfortunately that weekend, Steven passed away. Steven’s wish before he died was that any money raised should be used to help others in situations such as his. Every year since, his wish continues to be fulfilled by a nine member board who receives and reviews requests for financial assistance.
The Steven Young Trust Fund is a charitable organization that raises money each year by holding their ever-popular Rubber Duck Race in the Grand River in conjunction with Caledonia’s Canada Day celebrations. Private donations are also welcomed throughout the year.
Purpose for Use of Funds
- To assist persons or provide relief to persons with medical expenses or personal costs not covered by
OHIP or private insurance for health or medical needs. - Funds are applied directly to the expense item.
- As a general rule, the beneficiary of the funds shall normally reside in a 25 mile radius of the former
town of Caledonia. - To assist with other or worthy charities in the opinion of the boards.
The Steven Young Trust Fund has purchased:
- Prescriptions medications
- A 12 passenger van for Camp Trillium
- VCRs and games for Children’s ward at McMaster Hospital
- Mobility & Assistive devices
- Parking passes for medical appointments
- Special software to aid an autistic child’s learning
